Ingredients
  

For the toffee base

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter The creamy foundation that gives the toffee its rich flavor.
  • 0.5 cup margarine Adds an additional layer of creaminess.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Contributes to the golden caramel color.
  • 0.25 teaspoon kosher salt Enhances the flavors and balances the sweetness.
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract Infuses a warm and aromatic backdrop.

For the topping

  • 12 ounces milk chocolate (melted) Adds a luscious chocolatey finish.
  • 1 cup unblanched whole almonds Provides delightful crunch and flavor.
  • 1 cup finely ground walnuts Adds depth and enhances the nutty profile.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the unsalted butter, margarine, granulated sugar, and kosher salt. Heat over medium, stirring constantly until melted.

Cooking

  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and stir for 10-15 minutes until the mixture becomes a rich amber color.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Fold in the whole almonds and finely ground walnuts.
  • Pour onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  • After 5 minutes, pour the melted milk chocolate over the top and spread evenly.
  • Optionally, sprinkle additional chopped almonds on top.

Cooling

  • Let cool completely until set, then break into pieces to serve.

Notes

Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to evenly distribute heat. Stir constantly to avoid crystallization. Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
