Ingredients

Meat and Dairy

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Use lean ground beef for a less greasy dish.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Melted cheese adds a creamy layer.
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup Brings a velvety texture.
  • 1 cup Milk Can substitute with almond or oat milk.

Vegetables

  • 5 medium Potatoes Sliced to tender perfection.
  • 0.5 medium Onion Chopped to add sweetness.

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances all flavors.
  • 0.5 tsp Black Pepper Adds warmth.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart. Drain excess fat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned ground beef, chopped onion, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  • In a 9×13 inch baking dish, arrange a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom.
  • Pour half of the ground beef mixture over the potatoes.
  • Add another layer of sliced potatoes, followed by the remaining beef mixture, and top with a final layer of potatoes.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top layer of potatoes.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly.

Serving

  • Allow the casserole to sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure potatoes are evenly sliced and season well. Covering with foil initially helps steam the potatoes.
