Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to achieve the perfect melty texture.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Drain excess grease from the beef.

Cooking

  • Stir in the taco seasoning with a bit of water as per package instructions, and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In a greased baking dish, spread a layer of refried beans evenly at the bottom.
  • Layer the seasoned ground beef on top of the refried beans.
  • Add the drained diced tomatoes and green chilies over the beef layer.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the entire dish.
  • Sprinkle crushed tortilla chips on top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with toppings like sour cream, guacamole, or fresh cilantro. Avoid overcrowding the layers in the baking dish for even cooking.
