  • 4 slices sourdough bread (thick-cut) Hearty bread that holds up well when toasted.
  • 8 oz deli turkey (sliced, smoked or oven-roasted) Tender and savory to complement other flavors.
  • 4 slices Gruyère cheese Rich and nutty, melts beautifully.
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese Smooth and creamy, pairs well with turkey.
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened) For a golden-brown crust.

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise Provides a creamy base.
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard Adds a distinct tang.
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce Enhances flavor with umami.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Whisk together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl until smooth.
  • Spread the sauce on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  • Layer Gruyère cheese, turkey, and Provolone cheese on two slices of bread, then top with remaining slices, spread-side down.
  • Spread softened butter on the top side of each sandwich.

Cooking

  • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and lay the sandwiches butter-side down.
  • Butter the new top sides of the sandwiches.
  • Grill for 4-5 minutes on each side until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.

Serving

  • Remove from skillet, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use fresh sourdough and don’t rush the grilling process. Consider adding spices or herbs to the mayonnaise mixture for extra flavor.
